The trip to Guatemala to start my frist Missions trip. Book of Hope Day 0. Guatemala 2004.

Well, I am current in Atlanta awaiting the flight to Guatemala City . Nothing to eventful so far has happened. We have managed to spend quite a bit of money on food at the airports so far. I have read the first 3 chapters of ‘Wild at Heart’ by John Eldredge on the flight here. This is going to be an interesting book; I think it has been very down to earth and real so far. John talks about how men are being subdued by society and how this is forcing us to live not according to our heart (desires): to battle to fight, the adventure to live, and the beauty to rescue.

We have just moved into our place here in Guatemala City . This place isn’t too bad, 6 guys in one small room, but all we need to do is sleep here and we don’t have that much stuff. No wireless hotspots to be found either. Oh well, looks like I will have to like a week without the internet. We ate at this placed called Campero for dinner. It was so sweet, bright yellow and orange were the colors – my favorite. They had some pretty greasy and good fried chicken and really sweet orange soda. We get to ride around in the yellow school bus painted with lots of little Christian insignias and other fun stuff. This week is going to be great; I’m really excited about what is going to happen. We won’t be sleeping much, but so what – what an experience this will be.
Celeste: We are here to serve and fun is only a pleasant bi-product. What I want to get out of this: I want to be able to relate to others and understand how to share. I think this will be difficult because I probably will be talking to people who can’t speak English. I also have never done this before of any sorts – missionary or just witnessing in general. I will just be sharing some verses and a quick idea to start the day (at 6:30 AM).
