How do the pressures of life affect you?

How do the pressures of life affect you? What is a time you stood up against pressure for what is right? A time when you gave in to the pressure and compromised your values? If you are constantly told you are going to fail (reminding of past failures), and know you aren’t perfect and will fail in the future, what keeps you going?

(Peer) pressure:

What is a time you stood up against pressure for what is right?
A time when you gave in to the pressure and compromised your values?

Is peer pressure something that even matters or effects us?

Look a certain way
– Status
– Live a certain way
– Not being rude/hurting feelings
Doubt
– Your values
– The worth/merit of values
– Image
– Make a fool out of ourselves

Is peer pressure bad?

How can we lessen the effects? (need to recognize it first)
Discipline (condioning)

Have you used peer pressure to influence others positively?

If we are constantly going to fail, why keep trying to do good?

If you are constantly told you are going to fail (reminding of past failures), and know you aren’t perfect and will fail in the future, what keeps you going?

There has to be something of value from our time here, otherwise God would have just put us where we will end up.

As much as we want to do what is right, there is just as much, if not more, pressure to not do what is right.

We need to truly belive in doing what is right [in the long run] not what is just morally right

Casting Crowns – Voice Of Truth

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I’m in
Onto the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He’s holding out His hand

But the waves are calling out my name
And they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I’ve tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again. “Boy, you’ll never win!”
“You’ll never win!”

But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story
The Voice of Truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
And the Voice of Truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth
[I will choose to not let my perception of what others want be a basis for my actions]

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant
With just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they’d have had the strength to stand

But the giant’s calling out my name
And he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I’ve tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again. “Boy you’ll never win!”
“You’ll never win!”

But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story
The Voice of Truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
And the Voice of Truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth

But the stone was just the right size
To put the giant on the ground
And the waves they don’t seem so high
From on top of them lookin’ down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
Singing over me

But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story
The Voice of Truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
And the Voice of Truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe-

I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth
[Sometimes we are too caught up in doing, that we aren’t taking the time to ‘choose’]

  1. everytime i get the courage even to do something small thats sorta out of my comforty zone i always surprize myself and others that i have that strength to break against the tide with such force…but then “with every action there is a reaction but in the opposite direction” i believe is what the saying says…so then afterwards i get all worried that i wont be like this again and it stunts me from being brave in the future. its really annoying.
